Halloween 2016
Alexander’s school, which is VERY enthusiastic about Halloween, kicked off our Halloween festivities this year. First, the kids paraded through the school in their costumes; then there was a school-wide assembly at which each kid strutted (or stumbled) down a catwalk to cute mock-fashion-show commentary from the student MCs. There were a lot of beautiful and interesting costumes, and it was a relief to see that, judging from this crowd, at least, the princess obsession fades by age six. The older students who were sitting near the catwalk were very willing to lend a hand to the youngest models when they needed help down the steps – it was nice to see. The strutting was interspersed with really enjoyable Halloween poetry readings (one complete with great sound-effects from some violin students!). The teachers concluded the assembly with a pretty impressive zombie dance number (we missed it in person, unfortunately, but saw it online). Then the children went back to their classrooms for their own Halloween parties. I stayed to watch Alexander bowl pumpkins. (Incidentally, I think it is safe to say we have identified an area in which he has zero natural ability.) You can probably guess who the “Head of School” is in the photos below – he looked incredible in person!

After school, we “got our spook on,” as Alexander would say. The Knight in Shining Armor actually went trick-or-treating twice! Before dinner, he set out with his dragon sidekick. After dinner, he braved it alone (with Daddy), while the disrobed dragon helped Mommy give out candy, and used his cuteness to make all the little girl trick-or-treaters swoon.
