Alexander’s 4th Birthday(s)

Alexander and Zachary enjoyed a record number of birthday parties this year, starting with a group “July birthdays” party at Grandma Georgia and Grandpa Cliff’s house on July 2, followed by their own parties at Grandma Lynne and Grandpa Richard’s house (on July 3 and July 10), and ending finally with very understated affairs at home on their actual birthdays (July 19 and July 20). Alexander’s personal party was knights-and-dragons-themed, and Zachary’s was Hungry Caterpillar-themed. Decorating was a thrill! (Of course, we still have to survive Alexander’s “kid party,” which we will have in September, after the school year starts, at the Museum of Transportation! Can’t say we’re looking forward to that one.)

Back at home, each boy went out for pancakes with Mommy and Daddy, unencumbered by his sibling, and opened a few last gifts. Alexander, in honor of his √16th birthday, received an electric red Mustang, which we thought would be an object of obsession for months to come, but which actually met with a very tepid reception. We think he was surprised to discover that there’s some effort involved in driving!

Although Birthday Season was more fun than it has ever been, we all needed a rest afterwards, and we certainly do not feel compelled to break the record any time in the near future!
